About the Artist

For almost forty years Ann McCall has been passionate about printmaking: over half of that period in the medium of screenprinting and in the last fifteen years in the medium of collagraphy. Since the beginning of her printmaking career, the imagery of the prints has been nature-based. This preoccupation continues, but starting in 2009 in the series Nature découpée, there is more of a concern for the fundamental details found in nature and less concern for the overall rendering of landscape. It is more of a reductive approach. Now, in her current series Arboreal, a new development towards the land and landscape is being investigated. The overall perspective continues to be a recognition of the beauty and force of nature.

Ann McCall RCA, born in Toronto in 1941, has lived and worked in Montréal for her entire professional career. She is a graduate of McGill University, BA 1964, in History of Art and of Concordia University in Studio Art, BFA 1978, specializing in Printmaking. In 1982, she was inducted into the RCA, serving twice on Governing Council and as President 2010- 2012. Since 1979 she has had fifty-eight solo exhibitions of prints, paintings or drawings and has participated in over 250 national and international group exhibitions. Thirteen prizes in Printmaking have been awarded to the artist. Her work can be found in museum, public institution, corporate and individual collections.
