About the Artist

For many years Rebecca Cowan’s art practice has utilized intaglio printmaking to explore issues of love, pain, and family dysfunction. The human figure has been at the centre of most of her work. But recently she has begun exploring the ways that the objects in our lives - furniture, houses, clothes, jewelry, and even our gardens- tell the world who we are.

Home has no geography, no place on a map, but rather a sense of security and safety. Home is a place to come back to from away. In the last few years, with home ownership becoming financially challenging for many people, the concept of the dream house has taken on an almost surreal identity. The media is filled with images of beautifully appointed rooms, perfect gardens, and sparkling appliances. But as is so often the case, our dreams can quickly become nightmares – especially the responsibility of home ownership.
